State Inaction
I write my state legislators daily, in between raising a family, work and taking care of my elderly parents and playing with the dog or on walks. Every day about things I think are important: the sanctity of the constitution, the importance of safe elections, the safety of the environment, universal health insurance, higher minimum wage and lower housing costs. It may mean smaller living and a change in administration long before the next election. As the current administration seems to be out of touch with the constitution, case law, American history, and the way we as Americans resolve problems.
Sometimes I hear back, sometimes I don't. It doesn't matter. But sometimes an answer is necessary and inevitably I hear from an agency or a policy wonk that sincerely wants to help. Those people serve. The pay may be low though sometimes that's been fixed. The key for Americans is that helping people is something we do. And we do it well. We are being encouraged not to however.
This administration wants us not to help people. It wants us to man up and punch people. That's anti American. Looking at Elizabeth Warren, Aryanna Presley, AOC, and people like Bernie Sanders, have skills to bring motions to the floor but to date have not. Using Roberts Rules of Order to get time on the floor and making extemporaneous or planned speeches is how government gets work done. Your local Toastmasters club and high school and college speech and debate clubs are critical tools for public speaking and offer supportive environments to leave the art of speaking with people.
The 14th Amendment is clearly the best option for removing a president although it takes a 30 state majority to work. There's where Americans need to use their friendships and contacts to reach the states come in handy. Copies of the constitution are available on line, at bookstorea and other retail outlets, and as phone apps.Let people know the you expect the constitution be obeyed by everyone be it lay person, police, judge, attorney.
The 25th Amendment requires a congressional hearing which the current administration has already been brought against him the unfortunate thing is there constitution overwhelming lacks enforcement options. The US code however does have penalties and directions for enforcement. Here in light of the dismissal of Ukraine and other US allies the treason statute, see E.g.
2382. Misprision of treason
Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States and having knowledge of the commission of any treason against them, conceals and does not, as soon as may be, disclose and make known the same to the President or to some judge of the United States, or to the governor or to some judge or justice of a particular State, is guilty of misprision of treason and shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than seven years, or both.
The penalties are severe and should be. Unfortunately the man attempting to lead us is constitutionally illiterate, and we the people aren't fighting hard enough for the document own our American brothers and sisters. Our phones are substituting for citizen activism and they are bad at it.
