Inauguration

 As a high schooler I spent my senior year in then West Germany. I had an American flag camera strap but felt conflicted about Reagan and Bush. I learned a lot about fascism and Nazis and the relationship between Germany and Poland in modern Europe. I even got to travel to Poland under Russian rule with my host family who had immigrated from the Soviet state.  While I was living in Germany, I met people from the Middle East, Africa and Asia. One thing united all of them: home.  Ultimately, I flew home with my friends. We exchanged letters as we headed to college and found new lives in the United States. We sometimes blamed our government and sometimes we focused on Europe as the wall came down. Some of us traveled back. I don't think any of us became Republicans.
